What should you use to clean a seat belt?
For most seat-belt webbing, the best starting point is a soft cloth or soft-bristle brush, lukewarm water, and a small amount of mild soap. This combination lifts everyday dirt without the harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbing that can damage the fibers you rely on to restrain a passenger or pet.

How do you clean a dirty belt?
Pull the belt out far enough to reach the dirty area, then gently work the soapy water into the webbing with a damp cloth or soft brush. Wipe away the soap with a separate cloth dampened with plain water, and let the belt air-dry completely before allowing it to retract or using it again.
For a stubborn spot, repeat the gentle cleaning rather than soaking the belt or using a stiff brush. If you are cleaning a removable pet restraint, follow its care instructions and keep metal clips and buckles from sitting in water.

Which cleaners should you avoid?
Skip bleach, solvents, strong degreasers, and heavily fragranced cleaners unless the belt manufacturer specifically approves them; they may affect the webbing or leave residue against your hands and your dog’s coat. Avoid high heat from a dryer or heat gun, too, since air-drying is the safer choice for both the strap and its hardware.
What should you inspect before using it again?
Once the belt is clean and dry, look for fraying, cuts, loose stitching, corrosion, or a buckle that does not latch and release properly. Cleaning cannot repair damaged restraint parts, so replace a questionable belt rather than putting it back into service.
If you use our Dog Car Seat Belt “Clipper,” include its strap and hardware in that inspection before each ride. For more on positioning and adjustment after cleaning, see our dog car seat belt fit and setup guide.
For dog-restraint setup in the car, the Travel Buddy Seat Cover covers the car upholstery, so dog hair and tracked debris land on a removable surface during travel; it pairs with the restraint during the same trip.

“very easy to use and fits any buckle. the materials are sturdy and the belt feels well-made. I always use it when my dog drives with me & it gives me peace of mind.”
