Your Questions, Answered
The bar lifts straight off. It sits on a hook-and-loop pad, so you raise one end and it releases. No tools, nothing to pry. The pad is the part that stays put, and it has a damage-free adhesive backing meant to come away clean. Two things make that go smoothly. Wipe the dash with isopropyl before you stick anything down, because trapped dust is what turns a clean removal into a smeared one. And if your dash is soft-touch or perforated leather, put the pad in a low corner first and give it a full day before you trust it.
Heat is the right thing to ask about. A parked dashboard can pass 158°F on the surface, measured in ADAC’s testing, and that’s above what a lot of cheap adhesive is rated for. The geometry helps. The bar lies flat along the base of the glass, so its weight presses down into the dash rather than hanging off the pad in shear. Install it on a cool dash, morning or in shade, and hold it down for a full 30 seconds. Adhesive applied to hot plastic never grips as well as adhesive applied cool.
Measure the bottom edge of your windshield, where the glass meets the dash. That number is what the bar has to fit, and it’s the only measurement that matters. Then check the fit finder. We ran 442 model-year ranges across 32 brands against the real bar width, so most cars on US roads are already in there. Between two sizes, take the smaller one. The panel drops 32.7 inches either way, so you lose no coverage, and a bar that’s slightly short still sits flat while one that’s slightly long won’t sit at all.
Yes. Lift the bar from one end, it comes off, and it goes into the next car the same way. Check the sizes before you swap, though. A Full-Size bar off an F-150 won’t sit right on a Civic, and that’s what the fit finder is for.
Usually no, because of where it sits. The bar runs along the bottom lip of the glass, and dash cams, rain sensors and ADAS cameras all live up high behind the rear-view mirror. Nothing competes for that space. Your HUD projects onto the lower glass, so the panel does cover it. But the panel is only up while you’re parked, and it’s down before you drive. Measure the dash lip anyway if you have a speaker grille or a sensor strip along the base of your windshield.
In our test, a steering wheel shielded from direct sun came down by as much as 47°F. That’s the difference between gripping the wheel and flinching off it, and it’s the reason you bought a sun shade in the first place. The panel is a custom weave with 3 nano-silver reflective layers and 2 protective layers over them.
The mechanism is rated for 10,000 open-close cycles. Twice a day, every day, that’s over 13 years. If it fails before that, email us and we replace the unit. There’s one moving part, and it’s the part we chose to spend the money on: an anodized alloy channel with two guide wheels, so the fabric runs in metal instead of grinding against plastic.
Yes. The two clips hook onto your sun visors as anchor points, so the visors stay where they normally sit. Folding shades work the other way round. You drop both visors to pin them against the glass, which is why reviewers call them visor-dependent and why they slide loose in cars with short visors.

A large truck windshield is exactly where most regular sun shades become a pain. The big accordion ones are awkward to unfold inside the cab, and storing one behind the seats gets old fast when the truck is used for work every day. RollShade stays down by the windshield, pulls across the glass smoothly, and disappears back into the housing when released. The metal channel and guide system give it a much more finished feel than the plastic gadgets tried before, and there are no umbrella ribs or handles hanging over the dash. What really stands out is not having to clear the passenger seat or floor every time someone gets in. The reflective side does a good job keeping direct sunlight off the dash and steering wheel during long stretches in an open parking lot. This finally fixed the most annoying part of using a windshield shade every day... My car sits outside at work for eight or nine hours, so covering the windshield makes a noticeable difference when getting back in during the afternoon. With the old folding shade, half the time it ended up tossed across the passenger seat because putting it away was such a hassle. RollShade just pulls up when parking and rolls back into the bar when it is time to leave. The action feels smooth, and the bar stays neatly along the bottom of the windshield instead of taking up cabin space. After getting the right size, the coverage across the glass is much better than expected and the steering wheel is far less brutal after sitting in direct sun. Great purchase. This setup is much more practical because the shade is already there and takes a few seconds to put up. The visor clips keep the top secure without having to fold the visors down against the windshield, which was a nice surprise. The material also feels more substantial than the thin silver shades sold at auto parts stores, and the roller does not feel flimsy when retracting. Installation took a little attention because the dash needed to be cleaned first and the bar had to be positioned correctly, but once that was done it stayed put. For a vehicle that spends a lot of time parked outside with kids climbing in afterward, the convenience alone has been worth it:)
The fit on our RAV4 windshield is great and the reflective material noticeably cuts down the heat around the dash. Love that the visors can stay in their normal position instead of being used to hold everything up!
